Titanium Information
What
is titanium?
Titanium is a natural element which
has a silver-greyish-white colour. Titanium is one of the hardest
natural metals in the world. It is stronger
than steel and much stronger than gold, silver and platinum
and yet is very light weight (45% lighter than steel!). Polished
titanium is very similar to platinum in lustre and appearance, and just
needs to be repolished to retain its original shine.
Why
choose titanium?
Titanium provides several unique
factors that make it the ideal metal for jewellery. It is very strong,
more dent, bend and scratch resistant than gold, silver and platinum,
and is very lightweight. Titanium is also the only metal used
in jewellery today that can be guaranteed not to produce skin
irritation, our titanium is 100% hypoallergenic and
will not produce skin irritation or discoloration.
Is
titanium hypoallergenic?
Pure titanium is 100%
hypoallergenic
and allergy free and will not produce skin irritation or discoloration.
Titanium does not react to sunlight, salt water, chlorine or
anything that the body emits. This is why we only offer pure titanium
to our clients. We do not use other metal alloys with our titanium to
ensure only the purest and safest titanium is used in our jewellery. We
use pure titanium with confidence knowing that anyone can wear it
without the concern of an adverse reaction to your body.
Did
you know...?
Most
Titanium comes from a mineral called Rutile, the majority of which
comes from Australian beaches? Australia actually produces 55% of the
world's naturally mined Rutile.
Titanium
is as strong as steel, but only weighs 56% as much. It has the highest
strength-to-weight ratio of any metal.
Titanium
forms a hard protective oxide film when it comes into contact with any
oxygen (including both air and water based oxygen). If the film is
scratched or damaged, so long as oxygen is present, the titanium will
"heal" itself.
Titanium
is the most biocompatible metal in existence, it does not react to
anything the body emits, and is the "healthiest" metal you can wear.
Because
titanium comes from sand, mining it has very little environmental
impact. Additionally, no harmful by-products are generated in its
production and 95% of its scrap is recycled. This makes it the most
environmentally friendly metal.
The
moon has a very high titanium content.
